Think Ahead Academy / Methodology

The method behind the marks

A classroom method built around the international student and the one factor most tutoring overlooks: exam technique. We teach students to reason the way examiners reward, turning a confident grasp of the content into the grades it deserves.

The philosophy

Taught by people who’ve lived it

At Think Ahead Academy, everyone who teaches a class or shapes a course has stood where our students stand. Most of our tutors and our Educational Department were international-school students themselves; the rest have spent years teaching these exact programmes. Either way, they know the experience from the inside: the pressure of the official exams, the discipline that good organisation demands, and the value of steady, consistent effort.

That insider view runs through everything we do. Our Educational Department designs and supervises every course around the international student, and around the single factor that most tutoring overlooks: exam technique. It is what turns a solid understanding of the content into the marks that content deserves.

How our classes work

One class a week, all year

Our format is built around what international students actually need: continuity, close follow-up and a rhythm that keeps pace with their school. One session per subject each week, right through the academic year, with most students staying with us as they move up through the stages.

Five students at most

Small groups where every student is known, followed closely and stretched at the right level.

Grouped by school

Classmates follow the same calendar, so lessons track your school’s exact pace and syllabus.

One topic per class

Each session covers a single topic from start to finish, so nothing is left half-learnt.

Solved together

Tutor and students work through the material side by side, never in silence or alone.

The heart of the method

The worksheet behind every class

Every lesson runs on our own theory-and-practice worksheets, written in-house and built around official exam questions on that day’s exact topic. They give each class a clear structure, keep students organised, and mean that from the very first minute, practice looks exactly like the real exam.

Exam technique

Think like the examiner

Knowing the theory is only half the battle. From the very first session, students work through real past papers and official mark schemes every single week, learning to answer exactly the way examiners reward. They learn to read the patterns that recur across papers, spot the hidden cues in how a question is phrased, and manage the clock so no marks are ever left on the table. Backed by the most current resources and the best digital tools available, students reach each official exam not just knowing the material, but knowing precisely how to turn that knowledge into marks.

“You can know the theory perfectly, but if you can’t answer the way the examiner wants, you’re lost.”

Our teachers

It all comes down to the teacher

The best method in the world still lives or dies on who delivers it. That is why the teacher is the ingredient we are most demanding about. Every tutor is trained in the Think Ahead methodology and brings years of experience teaching IGCSE, A-Level, MYP and IB, but experience on its own is never enough.

We look for a genuine vocation, both for teaching and for the subject itself, paired with real empathy for the student. The gift we prize most is the ability to make the difficult feel simple: to take a complex idea and turn it into something a student can grasp, hold on to and build on. That is what moves a student from stuck to confident, and it is what our tutors do every day.
